Liverpool have reportedly emerged as the new favourites to land Spain international defender Marc Bartra this summer, according to El Confidencial (via TalkSport).

The Premier League side, who currently sit ninth in the standings following Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to the hands of Southampton at St Mary’s Stadium, have joined rivals Manchester United and Tottenham in the hunt to sign the out-of-favour FC Barcelona star once the current 2015-16 campaign has concluded.

The 25-year-old, who has six international caps for his country, has scored one goal and provided one assist in 22 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga leaders so far this season.

Bartra, who graduated through Barca’s world renowned youth academy, is growing frustrated at his lack of first-team chances at the Nou Camp this term having started just three league games all term.

In fact; the lack of matches under Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has reportedly decreased the centre-back’s buy-out clause from £20m to just £9m ahead of interest from Liverpool, United and Spurs this summer.
