When asked about any more potential transfers, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp smiled and reminisced about the unique aspects the Reds have over their rivals.

“We have so many things which you can’t sign,” said the former Borussia Dortmund manager.

“You cannot sign pressing, you cannot sign counter-pressing, you cannot sign atmosphere, you cannot sign togetherness, you can’t sign the atmosphere we can create in the stadium, you can’t sign Anfield, you can’t sign our anthem, you can’t sign a lot of things.”

Liverpool’s only new acquisition so far is the £36 million signing of RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate, which was secured all the way back in May.

The six-time European champions have also seen Georginio Wijnaldum depart for Paris Saint-Germain, while young players Harry Wilson and Taiwo Awoniyi have both left for Fulham and Union Berlin respectively.

Another Reds midfielder who could be set for the exit door is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has been linked with an emotional return to former club Southampton, according to The Sun.

The Ox has made 104 appearances for Liverpool.

The 27-year-old left the Saints for Arsenal for £15 million in 2011, after firing the Hampshire club to promotion to the Championship.

Ten years later, the versatile midfielder could be set for a return down South with competition for midfield positions at Anfield higher than ever.

Klopp does rate Chamberlain highly and has even trialled him as a false nine during pre-season fixtures against Stuttgart, but injuries have hampered the Englishman’s progress on Merseyside.

Maybe a return to Southampton could be the move he needs to get regular football and reignite his hopes of breaking back into Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
