Two away victories in two matches seems to have reenergised Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool side who had recently lost their mojo.

The imperious Reds were not so imperious recently, having failed to record a victory for six games and needing four matches to score in 2021.

However, two consecutive 3-1 victories away to Spurs and West Ham has resuscitated Liverpool’s title defence for this season and Klopp will now be looking to what is ahead of them in the table rather than what is catching them below.

While these results have provided the former Borussia Dortmund and Mainz manager with a much-needed boost of confidence and positivity, there remains a glaring issue staring him in the face.

Midfield general and club captain Jordan Henderson was once again fielded in central defence, but was this time partnered with the inexperienced Nathaniel Phillips.

Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have both been played out of position to cover the central defence.

While Henderson and Phillips fared well against the Hammers, it is a far cry from the preferred defensive partnership of the colossal Virgil van Dijk and the classy Joe Gomez, who are both nursing long term injuries.

The reigning Premier League champions have been looking for solutions to strengthen their defensive options and identified Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba as a potential addition.

However, according to German Website Sport1, Bayer Leverkusen have put a hefty £44 million price tag on the 21-year-old Guinea international.

Tapsoba has been impressive for Leverkusen who are currently in fifth position just one point away from a Champions League place.
