Liverpool will look to return to the top of the Premier League table when they face Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The Reds had moved into first place when they beat Sheffield United on Thursday, but Arsenal’s 3-0 victory over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday moved Mikel Arteta’s side back to the summit.

Jurgen Klopp will expect his side to defeat the Red Devils at Old Trafford on Sunday, but the Manchester side will be hoping to bounce back from their dramatic 4-3 defeat against Chelsea last time out.

In the meantime, it appears that one of Liverpool’s key players is set for a significant pay rise.

According to Football Insider, defender Trent Alexander-Arnold is in talks over a ‘bumper’ new contract at Anfield.

The England international is regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League, but his current contract is set to expire next summer.

Alexander-Arnold is in line for a huge new contract

Alexander-Arnold, 25, has made more than 300 appearances for the Reds since graduating from the club’s youth academy, providing an impressive 81 assists in that time.

The report claims that the right-back is currently in talks over an extension to his current deal, with discussions set to continue into the summer.

Despite being injured since the middle of February, Alexander-Arnold has made 29 appearances so far this season, playing an integral role in Klopp’s side as they bid to win the top flight title.

It is claimed in the report that talks over an extension are expected to be straight forward, despite the Englishman having attracted interest from Spanish giants Real Madrid.

The defender could be included in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the European Championships in Germany this summer, and it has been rumoured that he could be deployed in midfield.
