Liverpool returned to winning ways in emphatic style as they beat struggling Leeds United 6-1 at Elland Road on Monday.

The Reds had been in poor form before the game, having failed to win any of their previous five games across all competitions.

Jurgen Klopp’s side bounced back in style, though, with both Mohamed Salah and Diogo Jota netting braces.

Cody Gakpo and Darwin Nunez were also on the scoresheet, and Liverpool will now be looking to move closer to the European qualification spots.

In the meantime, it appears that those in charge of the Merseyside club are looking to secure a shock move for a Premier League player.

According to Football Insider, The Reds’ owners have approved a contract offer for Chelsea star Mason Mount.

The midfielder’s current deal with The Blues is set to expire next summer, and Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for the player in recent months.

Now, the sensational proposed move appears to have moved a step closer, with Liverpool plotting a huge contract offer for the player.

Mount, 24, has been an integral part of the Chelsea side since making his senior debut for the club in 2019.

A product of The Blues’ fruitful academy, Mount has made 194 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 33 goals and providing 37 assists.

His future remains in serious doubt, though, as talks over an extension to his current contract have so far failed to progress.

Despite that, The Blues will make another offer to the player as they attempt to persuade him to stay put at Stamford Bridge, the report claims.

Liverpool are said to have identified the England international as a prime candidate to bolster their midfield ahead of next season, with both Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita set to depart the club when their contracts expire this summer.

Mount is also a homegrown player, which is a useful attribute for clubs as they look to adhere to the restrictions in place.

It remains to be seen whether or not Chelsea can persuade Mount to commit his long-term future to the club.
