Manchester City welcome Premier League leaders Arsenal to The Etihad on Wednesday for a potential title decider.

At present, The Gunners sit five points clear of the reigning champions, although City do have two games in hand over their rivals.

A win for either side on Wednesday would leave a league triumph firmly in their hands, although Arsenal will have to end a run of three consecutive draws if they are to extend their lead.

In the meantime, it appears that The Citizens could face a battle to keep hold of one of their players.

As per The Daily Star, Liverpool are interested in completing a shock £35 million move for City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, with the player himself also said to be keen on the idea.

Phillips, 27, joined the Manchester side from Leeds United last summer but has so far enjoyed a nightmare first season with the club.

He has made just 16 appearances across all competitions and is yet to start a single Premier League match, which has cast his future into doubt just months after he joined the club.

The former Leeds man missed the first half of the season after undergoing shoulder surgery, but was fit enough to feature for England at the World Cup in Qatar.

Phillips is reportedly a target for rivals Liverpool

Manager Guardiola publicly criticised him in December, claiming that he had returned from the tournament overweight, and he has since played a bit-part role for City.

The report claims that The Reds are considering a move for the England international after being priced out of a move for Phillips’ international teammate Jude Bellingham.

The Borussia Dortmund star would likely cost more than £100 million if he were to leave the Bundesliga side this summer, and those in charge of Liverpool have therefore decided not to pursue a move for the player.

Klopp is keen to add at least one central midfielder to his squad ahead of next term, with both Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain set to leave Anfield when their contracts expire this summer.

West Ham United are also said to be interested in a move for Phillips this summer, although the Englishman would reportedly relish the chance to revive his career on Merseyside.
