Liverpool plotting shock late move for Premier League star

Liverpool travel to face Wolves in an FA Cup third round replay on Tuesday evening. 

Jurgen Klopp’s side were somewhat fortunate to force the original tie to a replay, with Wolves defender Toti Gomes’ late goal controversially ruled out at Anfield.

The Reds have since been beaten 3-0 by Brighton and Hove Albion in the Premier League, and Klopp will be looking for a reaction from his side at Molineux.

Liverpool will be facing a side that have improved recently, picking up seven points from their last four league games.

The match could also give Klopp a chance to see one of his top targets in action, as The Reds are reportedly planning a sensational move late in the transfer window.

As per Football Insider, the Merseyside club are preparing a move for Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

Klopp has previously claimed that The Reds are unlikely to make any more signings this month following the arrival of Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven, but the report claims that they could move for the Portugal midfielder.

Liverpool could make a late bid for Neves

The Reds have been keen to add a midfielder to their squad for a while now, although number one target Jude Bellingham won’t be allowed to leave current club Borussia Dortmund until the summer at the earliest.

That has prompted the club to show an interest in Neves, 25, who has been impressive for Wolves ever since arriving in the Premier League.

The Portugal international joined the club from Porto back in 2017 and has since made 235 appearances for Wolves, scoring 28 goals in the process.

Liverpool’s interest in the player is said to be ‘concrete’, while it is also claimed that Wolves could listen to offers for a player who is set to be out of contract in 2024.

Those in charge of The Reds are said to be biding their time by waiting until Wolves have finalised all of their own new signings.

Mario Lemina has already arrived at Molineux, and Liverpool are hopeful that they may allow Neves to leave if another midfielder arrives.

Last year, then-manager Bruno Lage claimed that Neves was valued by Wolves at £100 million, although that price tag is likely to have dropped significantly now that the player has entered into the final 18 months of his current contract.
