Liverpool Predicted XI: We predict Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI as his side travel to Southampton this evening in the Premier League.

After getting used to life at the top, following their Premier League victory last campaign, Liverpool were joined on 33 points by their old rivals Manchester United on Friday night.

Both teams have played 16 games and Liverpool will be very wary of United and the other Manchester club City as they travel to Southampton to end a busy festive period.

Post-Christmas life has not been fantastic for the Reds with two disappointing draws against Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion.

On the other side of the field, the Saints are enjoying a fantastic campaign, but are yet to win in their last four matches, with three draws and a loss.

At this stage of the season, form is not important and Klopp’s squad will know they have a tough game on their hands.

Here we predict the Liverpool’s starting XI…

Goalkeeper:

Klopp’s number one, Alisson has returned to the side and will be expecting to keep his spot in the starting XI at St Mary’s. The Brazilian will be hoping the Reds defence in front of him are able to keep Danny Ings & co quiet.

Defenders:

Joel Matip was another centre back added to the injury list for the Reds, which leaves Klopp very short of options. We expect Klopp to start with Fabinho and youngster Rhys Williams who in the centre back positions. That leaves the trusted pair of  Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson are likely to keep their place in the full back positions.

Midfielders:

For the first time in a long while, Klopp has many options in the midfield area as more of his key players have returned to full fitness. Due to tonight’s difficult opponents, we believe Klopp will go with an experienced midfield three in Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and James Milner. But he is likely to call on the services of Thiago and Curtis Jones if needed.

Forwards:

Following their 7-0 rant over Crystal Palace, goals have been hard to come by in the last two matches, with only Sadio Mane finding the net. We expect the Senegal international to start alongside his main strike partners in Roberto Firmino and Mo Salah. Klopp will be desperate for his front three to get scoring again.

Predicted Liverpool XI vs Crystal Palace: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, Williams, Robertson; Henderson, Wijnaldum, Milner; Salah, Mane, Firmino.
