Liverpool began the new Premier League season in style on Saturday, defeating newly-promoted Norwich 3-0 at Carrow Road.

Mohamed Salah continued his impressive opening day record with the Reds, scoring once and assisting the other two in the win, having also scored and assisted two seasons ago when they played the Canaries in the first game.

Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino, who are likely to battle for the number nine spot in Jurgen Klopp’s side this season, were also both on target this time around as the Reds cruised to a first victory of the campaign.

Despite his side’s impressive attacking display, it appears that Klopp is still on the lookout for more talent going forward.

According to the Daily Express, Liverpool are in pursuit of Watford’s Ismaila Sarr and have been handed a big boost in their efforts.

The report states that the Senegal international has told his current employers that he wishes to leave the club.

Sarr scored in Watford’s 3-2 opening day victory over Aston Villa.

Sarr was instrumental last season as Watford returned to the Premier League, scoring 13 times and registering a further 10 assists in the Championship.

Now, it appears that Liverpool could be prepared to offer the Hornets a fee of £40 million for the 23-year-old.

However, the report also suggests that a move for Sarr may hinder on whether or not the Reds can sell both Divock Origi and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Selling the out-of-favour pair would free up room in the squad for Sarr, whose directness and attacking threat are thought to be qualities admired by Klopp.

It’s thought that Liverpool approached Watford for Sarr a year ago, but were flatly rejected at the time as the Hornets aimed to bounce back to the top flight.

Now, however, it appears that the player is keen to depart and a sum of £4o million could be enough to prise him away from Watford.
