Liverpool’s slim Premier League title hopes could come to an end this weekend if either Arsenal or Manchester City avoid defeat.

The Reds currently sit third in the table, four points behind Manchester City and five behind leaders Arsenal.

Jurgen Klopp’s side travel to face Aston Villa on Monday night, making it likely that their chances of winning the title will already be over by the time they arrive at Villa Park.

With Klopp set to be replaced by Feyenoord boss Arne Slot, this summer could be a significant one at Anfield.

Now, it has emerged that the Merseyside club are interested in a Serie A midfielder.

As per Football Insider, Liverpool have registered their interest in Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners.

The 26-year-old has been in fine form for Atalanta this season and helped the Italian side progress past Liverpool in the Europa League quarter-finals last month.

The Dutchman joined Atalanta from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in 2021 and has since made a total of 124 appearances for his current side across all competitions.

His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, though, and the report suggests that Italian giants Juventus are currently in pole position to land the central midfielder.

While Liverpool have been in contact with the player’s agent over a potential deal, the Premier League side aren’t currently leading the race to land the Netherlands international.

Koopmeiners’ current contract with Atalanta is set to run until the end of the 2026/27 campaign, which puts the Serie A side under very little pressure to sell him this summer.

Liverpool underwent a complete midfielder overhaul last summer, but experienced Spaniard Thiago remains at the club and is likely to depart this summer.

The Reds may therefore be in the market for a replacement, and it appears that Koopmeiners is one of their top targets.
