Everton host Liverpool on Wednesday night in the final ever Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The Toffees welcome the Premier League leaders to Goodison for a match that was originally scheduled to take place in December, before being postponed.

Arne Slot’s side currently boast a six-point lead over second-placed Arsenal in the race for the Premier League title, and the Dutchman will hope to see that increased to nine points with victory on Wednesday.

Liverpool had a relatively quiet January transfer window with no new arrivals at Anfield, however it has now emerged that the Merseyside club rejected offers for one of their attackers.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr made two offers for Liverpool forward Darwin Nunez during the recent window.

The report claims that a financial agreement between the two clubs was ‘very close’, before the Reds rejected the proposal and decided to hang on to the Uruguayan.

Nunez, 25, joined Liverpool from Portuguese side Benfica in the summer of 2022 and has since made 128 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Nunez was the subject of offers from Saudi side Al Nassr last month

He has scored 39 goals during that time, as well as registering 22 assists.

Romano claims that Liverpool ultimately rejected the idea of selling Nunez as they couldn’t source a replacement for the Uruguay international and were unwilling to overpay for one.

The report also suggests that those in charge of the club are focussed on Slot’s plans, and it is also suggested that the upcoming summer transfer window could be a busy one at Anfield.

Nunez is contracted to Liverpool until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but it remains to be seen whether or not he will stay put until then.

This season the forward has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Slot, tarting just seven of Liverpool’s 23 Premier League matches so far.
