Liverpool will hope to return to winning ways in the Premier League when they host Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

After winning their first three games of the season, the Reds were beaten 1-0 by Nottingham Forest at Anfield last weekend in one of the shock results of the campaign so far.

Arne Slot’s side returned to winning ways against AC Milan in the Champions League on Tuesday, defeating the Italian outfit 3-1, but the Dutchman will expect to see his side continue where they left off when they host the Cherries.

Ahead of the game, it has emerged that the Merseyside outfit are still interested in an England international.

Speaking to Rousing the Kop, journalist Graeme Bailey claimed that Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon remains a target for Liverpool despite the player being set to start negotiations over a new contract with the Magpies soon.

He claims that Newcastle are keen to agree a new long-term deal with the winger, which would likely make him the club’s highest earners.

Despite this, Liverpool have told the Englishman that their interest in him is long-term and they won’t necessarily be deterred if he does sign a new deal with his current side, the report claims.

Gordon was part of the England squad for the Euros earlier this summer

Gordon, 23, joined Newcastle from Liverpool’s Merseyside rivals Everton in January last year and has since played 69 times for the North East giants, scoring 14 goals and providing 11 assists.

At present the winger has less than two years remaining on his contract, hence Newcastle’s determination to begin talks over an extension.

Despite that, it appears that Liverpool’s interest in signing the player isn’t likely to go away any time soon.

Liverpool were one of the Premier League’s quietest sides during the recent summer transfer window, with Federico Chiesa the only player to have joined Slot’s squad since the end of last term.
