Liverpool’s slim hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League remain alive following their 1-0 win against Fulham on Wednesday.

Mohammed Salah’s penalty in the first half was enough to separate the two sides during a close encounter at Anfield.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have now won their last five Premier League matches as they look to secure a place in the top four.

Despite their good run of form, qualification for next season’s competition still looks unlikely for Liverpool as they sit seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.

If they fail to qualify for the Champions League for the first time in seven years, the Merseyside outfit will be forced to settle for a place in the Europa League next term.

This summer looks likely to be one of significant change, with Klopp keen to overhaul his squad after what has already been a disappointing campaign.

Midfield trio Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner all look set to leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season, and it appears that target Jude Bellingham could be on his way to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

With that in mind, The Reds have reportedly turned their attention to alternative targets.

According to Fabrizio Romano, the club are targeting Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

Mac Allister is said to be a target for Liverpool this summer

It is claimed that The Reds have presented a proposal to the player with a view to luring him away from the south coast.

The Seagulls signed the midfielder for around £10m from Boca Juniors in January 2020, and he has since enjoyed a remarkable rise.

Mac Allister is enjoying a fine season for the Seagulls at present, and also played a key role as Argentina won the World Cup in Qatar in December.

The 24-year-old’s versatility has been useful for Brighton, with the Argentine able to play in a number of roles across the midfield.

Mac Allister has made 33 appearances across all competitions so far this term, scoring eight goals and registering one assist.

The Argentine’s contract doesn’t expire until 2025, though, and Brighton will therefore be in no rush to sell the player.

Brighton have reportedly set a price tag of around £70m for Mac Allister, who has made more than 100 appearances for the club in total.
