A Luis Diaz hat-trick helped Liverpool cruise to a convincing 4-0 win over Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Arne Slot’s side had won their opening three games in the competition – conceding just once – but they were unable to find a breakthrough in the first half against Leverkusen.

Diaz eventually put the hosts in front at Anfield, before in-form midfielder Cody Gakpo doubled their advantage moments later.

Colombia international Diaz then added his second, before completing his hat-trick and making it 4-0 to Liverpool in added time.

The result moves the Reds top of the 36-team Champions League table after four matches, although Premier League rivals Aston Villa could return to the top if they beat Club Brugge on Wednesday.

In the meantime, it appears that one of Liverpool’s current players is set for talks over his future.

As per Football Insider, Liverpool are set to begin contract talks with full-back Andy Robertson next summer.

Robertson remains part of Slot’s plans despite his recent lack of game time

The Scot will soon enter into the final 18 months of his current deal, but Slot is keen t0 keep hold of the 30-year-old.

Robertson joined Liverpool from Championship side Hull City in 2017 and has since enjoyed enormous success on Merseyside.

The Scotland international has played more than 300 times for the club across all competitions, winning no fewer than eight trophies.

Despite his importance to Liverpool over the past seven years, Robertson was an unused substitute against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday, and has failed to start the Reds’ last two Champions League games.

Slot has claimed that Robertson’s recent decrease in game time is solely due to the defender not yet being fully fit, and the report suggests that the Dutchman is keen to keep the experienced player in his squad beyond the end of his current deal.
