Liverpool face Italian side Bologna in the second match of their Champions League group phase campaign on Wednesday night.

The Reds were 3-0 winners over Bologna’s Serie A rivals AC Milan last time out, and manager Arne Slot will be hoping to see a similar performance this time around.

One player that could be involved in the game on Wednesday is forward Darwin Nunez, who has been the subject of intense speculation in recent weeks.

It has been suggested that the Uruguayan could leave Anfield in the near future, but according to Fabrizio Romano via CaughtOffside, the attacker is fully focussed on Liverpool.

Nunez, 25, joined the Reds from Portuguese side Benfica in 2022 and has since enjoyed mixed fortunes on Merseyside.

He has scored relatively frequently, but has also missed a number of glaring opportunities in front of goal.

Nunez remains focussed on Liverpool amid speculation surrounding his future

The Uruguay international has scored 34 goals and registered 18 assists in 102 games for the Reds since his move, and Romano claims the player remains focussed on the Merseyside club.

He has fallen somewhat out of favour since Slot’s arrival over the summer, though, starting just one of Liverpool’s six Premier League matches so far.

The striker netted his first goal of the campaign against Bournemouth last week, and also registered an assist in the Carabao Cup against West Ham United.

Romano also suggests that speculation that Real Madrid star Rodrigo is being lined up as a potential replacement for Nunez is also untrue, rubbishing the claims.

Nunez is contracted to Liverpool until the end of the 2027/28 season, having penned a long-term deal when he first arrived in England two years ago.
