The European Championships starts on Friday evening, with several Premier League players set to be involved.

Hosts Germany face Scotland in the tournament’s opening match, before England begin their bid for glory against Serbia on Sunday evening.

Several Premier League players will be involved in the tournament in Germany this summer, including Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk.

The centre-back will captain the Netherlands this summer, but it appears that his future at club level has been cast into uncertainty.

According to Spanish outlet Marca via 90min, Van Dijk has attracted significant interest from clubs in the Saudi Arabian Pro League side Al Nassr.

The report claims that the Dutchman has been identified as a target for the Pro League club, who have met with the player’s representatives.

It is claimed that Al Nassr are willing to offer Van Dijk a contract that would make him the highest paid defender in football history.

Van Dijk’s current contract with the Reds is set to expire next summer, which means that he would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any overseas club in January.

The Netherlands international joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018 and has since established himself as one of the best central defenders in world football.

In total he has made 270 appearances for the Merseyside club across all competitions, winning eight trophies including the Premier League and Champions League.

The 32-year-old is set to remain a key player for new manager Arne Slot, but Al Nassr are reportedly on the hunt for defensive reinforcements and are hoping to take advantage of the uncertainty surrounding Van Dijk’s current contract.
