Premier League champions Liverpool continued their perfect start to the new season with a 2-1 win over rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday.

Midfielder Ryan Gravenberch put the hosts ahead at Anfield, before Hugo Ekitike doubled their advantage in the first half.

After the break, Idrissa Gueye halved the Toffees’ deficit, but David Moyes’ side were unable to find an equaliser and leaders Liverpool instead extended their winning run in the Premier League to five matches.

Next up for Arne Slot’s side is a Carabao Cup third round tie against Championship side Southampton, before a visit to Crystal Palace in the league at the end of the month.

In the wake of their victory in the Merseyside derby, it has emerged that one of Liverpool’s youngsters could be in line for a staggering pay rise.

According to TBR Football, teenager Rio Ngumoha is in line for a 7,000% pay rise when he signs a new deal with the Reds.

The 17-year-old became the youngest goalscorer in Liverpool’s history when he netted the winner against Newcastle United last month, but he currently earns just £300-per-week.

Liverpool have a salary cap in place which means that players in their first year as a professional cannot earn more than £1,000-per-week, but Ngumoha is set to earn significantly more than that.

According to the report, the forward is in line to earn around £1 million annually when taking into account potential bonuses.

Ngumoha joined Liverpool’s academy from the youth system of rivals Chelsea in 2024, and he made his senior debut for the Reda against Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup last season.

So far this term the teenager has made three appearances, most notably scoring the winner in a thrilling encounter with Newcastle last month.

The attacker’s current contract with the Premier League champions is set to run until the end of the current campaign, but the report suggests that he is in line to sign a more lucrative deal very soon.
