Liverpool survive a brief scare to defeat Championship side Southampton 2-1 in the Carabao Cup third round on Tuesday evening.

The Reds had gone ahead when Alexander Isak netted his first goal for the club, but Shea Charles drew the Saints level in the second half.

Substitute Hugo Ekitike then netted the winner for Arne Slot’s side, although the Frenchman was sent off in the wake of the goal after receiving a second yellow card for removing his shirt during his celebration.

Ekitike will therefore miss the Reds’ visit to Crystal Palace on Saturday, although Slot will be pleased with his side’s progression into round four of the competition.

Ahead of their trip to Selhurst Park, it has emerged that one member of Slot’s squad could be in line for a new contract.

According to GiveMeSport, midfielder Ryan Gravenberch is set to be rewarded with a new deal after his impressive start to the new campaign.

The 23-year-old joined the Reds from Bayern Munich ahead of last season and played an instrumental role for Slot’s side last term, featuring in 37 of their 38 Premier League matches as they cruised to the top flight title.

He has also started the new season strongly, netting in Liverpool’s 2-1 Merseyside derby win over rivals Everton on Saturday.

It is claimed that the Netherlands international currently earns around £100,000-per-week, but he is set to for talks over a new deal with his current employers.

The report also claims that, unlike some of his teammates, Gravenberch is already on a high wage due to the low transfer fee of around £35 million that Liverpool paid Bayern to sign the player last year.

His current deal is set to expire in 2028, but the report claims that he could soon sign new terms with the club.
