Aston Villa won’t be signing Liverpool defender Joe Gomez in January, according to reports.

Following the appointment of Reds legend Steven Gerrard as manager, the Villans were linked with a swoop for the 24-year-old.

The Mirror reported that Gerrard was keen on given the out-of-favour player more game time and that Klopp would consider letting him leave on loan.

Gerrard left Rangers to join Aston Villa in November.

However, it now seems that the 11-time England international will not be turning out in the famous claret and blue shirt come January.

According to the Daily Mail, Villa have “not registered their interest” in signing Gomez, who has made only three starts this season in all competitions after coming back from injury.

The centre-back has yet to feature in the Premier League this season with two of his three starts coming in the League Cup.

He finds himself behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and summer signing Ibrahima Konate in the pecking order.

Gomez has won the Premier League, Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup in his time at Anfield, playing 128 times in all competitions.

The London-born star started his carer with Charlton Athletic before signing for Liverpool in a deal worth £3.5million in 2015.
