Cristiano Ronaldo was officially unveiled as an Al-Nassr player earlier this week, just weeks after leaving Manchester United in controversial fashion.

The 37-year-old’s second stint at Old Trafford ended bitterly, with the player conducting an interview with Piers Morgan during which he criticised a number of aspects of the club, including current Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag and several former teammates.

The Portuguese, who was also dropped by Portugal boss Fernando Santos during the World Cup in Qatar, has since joined the Saudi Arabian club, and was announced in front of the club’s supporters on Tuesday.

Since Ronaldo joined his new club, another Premier League star has been linked with a move to the Middle East, although the player would reportedly prefer to stay put.

According to Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool striker Roberto Firmino is keen to stay at Anfield, despite interest from unnamed Saudi clubs.

The Brazilian’s current contract is set to expire at the end of the season, which means he is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club from this month onwards.

Despite this, and the interest from abroad, it is claimed that the player’s preference would be to remain at Anfield with talks about his future currently ongoing.

Firmino hopes to extend his stay at Anfield

Firmino, 31, has spent more than seven years with Liverpool since joining from German club Hoffenheim in 2015.

In that time, he has scored more than 100 goals in 348 appearances for The Reds, as well as winning a total of seven trophies including the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

His playing time under Jurgen Klopp has decreased slightly over the past couple of seasons, and many had predicted that the Brazil international’s opportunities would be further depleted by the arrival of Darwin Nunez last summer.

Instead, Firmino has been in fine goal scoring form, netting seven goals in 13 Premier League games prior to the World Cup.

While the report claims that Firmino has been approached by clubs from Saudi Arabia, it does also stress that Al-Nassr have not made any contact over a proposed deal.
