With the transfer window officially opening for English and Scottish clubs next week, speculation surrounding potential moves is rife.

A number of huge stars, including Harry Kane and Mason Mount, are at the centre of rumours ahead of what promises to be a hectic summer window.

Several clubs are set to be busy over the summer, with the likes of Chelsea set for squad overhauls ahead of next term.

Now, though, it appears that Liverpool are closing in on their first signing of the summer.

As per Football Insider, Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister underwent a medical on Tuesday ahead of a proposed move to Anfield.

The Argentina international has been in sensational form for the Seagulls over the past 12 months, and is said to be finalising the last details ahead of his move to Liverpool, which will likely be completed this week.

Mac Allister has reportedly been given permission to undergo a medical with Liverpool

Despite rumours that the Reds would have to pay upwards of £60 million for Mac Allister, the report claims that the actual fee will likely be less than £50 million.

It is also claimed that the move has been helped by a release clause included in the contract extension that Mac Allister signed with Brighton last year.

This season, the midfielder made 40 appearances across all competitions and played a key role in helping the club to an eight-placed finish in the Premier League table, in turn qualifying for Europe for the first time in their history.

In December, he helped Argentina to glory in the World Cup in Qatar, playing in six of their seven matches at the tournament.

Liverpool have prioritised a move for Mac Allister as they look to rebuild their midfield this summer.

Midfield trio James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will all leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of this month, and manager Jurgen Klopp is therefore looking to bolster his midfield options ahead of next term.

Nice star Khephren Thuram and Borussia Monchengladbach’s Manu Kone are said to be other players being considered by the Merseyside outfit.
