Liverpool will be hoping to keep the pressure up on fourth-placed Manchester United when they face Aston Villa on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit fifth in the Premier League table – just one point behind the Red Devils – although Erik ten Hag’s side do have a game in hand.

The Reds will likely be hoping to add a number of players to their squad this summer, and it was announced on Wednesday that four of their current first team players will depart the club.

Now, though, it appears that one of their top targets for the upcoming summer transfer window could become available.

As per Football Insider, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount will be sold this summer if he refuses to sign a new contract with the club.

The midfielder’s current deal is set to expire next summer and his representatives have been locked in negotiations with the club over an extension.

The talks have so far failed to progress, though, and it is now claimed that the England international will be sold this summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal.

Mount could leave Chelsea this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract

Mount, 24, made his senior debut for the Blues in 2019 and has since played a crucial role for the west London outfit, winning the club’s player of the year award in each of the last two seasons.

In total, the Englishman has scored 33 goals and provided 37 assists in 195 appearances across all competitions for Chelsea.

The report suggests that incoming manager Mauricio Pochettino is set to discuss Mount’s future with the player in the hope that he can persuade him to stay, although the Argentine will have no authority over how much money the player is offered.

Mount is believed to earn around £80,000-per-week at present and is keen to secure himself a significant pay rise, but Chelsea are standing firm on their offer and the player could therefore depart Stamford Bridge this summer.

It is claimed that the midfielder is demanding a wage similar to the amount that teammates Raheem Sterling and Reece James currently earn, with the latter having penned a new deal earlier this season.

Chelsea could sell Mount during the upcoming window in order to avoid losing him for free next term, as the midfielder would be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with any foreign club from January onwards.
