Liverpool will hope to pick up where they left off when they host Chelsea after the international break.

Arne Slot’s side have started the new Premier League season strongly – winning six of their opening seven matches – and currently hold a one-point lead over reigning champions Manchester City and title chasers Arsenal.

The Dutchman will have been pleased with the start his side have made, however the Blues have also impressed in the early weeks of the season and will undoubtedly provide a stern test for the Merseyside club.

Away from the Premier League title race, it appears that Liverpool are focussing on signing a new defender.

According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool have identified Sevilla Loic Bade and Sporting CP star Goncalo Inacio as potential targets as they hunt for a new centre-back.

The pair have both impressed for their respective clubs in recent months, and the report suggests that those in charge of the Reds’ recruitment have watched the players closely.

Inacio has emerged as a target for Liverpool

Bade, 24, joined Sevilla on loan from French side Rennes in January last year and made his move permanent six months later.

In total he has played 67 times for the La Liga side across all competitions, and his impressive displays appear to have attracted the attention of Liverpool.

The Frenchman has a £42 million release clause in his current contract, but the report suggests that Liverpool even hope to agree a deal for a fee below that amount.

Inacio, meanwhile, is a product of Sporting’s fruitful youth academy and has now played more than 180 times for the club at senior level.

The report claims that the Reds were also interested in Juventus’ Gleison Bremer, although the Brazilian is now injured.

Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi was another target, but the England international could prove too expensive having been an unattainable target for Newcastle United over the summer.
