Real Madrid were able to hold Liverpool at Anfield and as such progressed to the Champions League semi-final at Jurgen Klopp’s men’s expense.

It was an impressive tie for Madrid, albeit it was overcome without the Anfield capacity crowd being there to suck the ball into the opposition net as so often has been the case on European nights in Merseyside.

However, Liverpool still made a strong account of themselves as they now look to start their rebuild from a torrid, trophyless season.

Klopp’s men are not without purpose and still have the top-four left to fight for where they will need to recover a deficit of three points if they are to remain in the Champions League for next season.

While this season is far from over, preparations and plans for next season are being put in place and, according to the Express, Liverpool are set to enter the race for teenage sensation Eduardo Camavinga of Rennes.

Camavinga has been a regular for Rennes in their midfield.

The 18-year-old has been labelled the next Patrick Vieira and has recently told his club he will not sign a new deal.

It’s claimed that this has sent all of Europe’s top clubs, including the likes of Real Madrid, scurrying to secure the Frenchman’s signature.

Zinedine Zidane’s side tried to initiate a move for Camavinga last season, but the young midfielder rejected their advances, opting to remain at Rennes for one more season.

With Real Madrid allegedly short on transfer funds and also appearing to prioritise a move for either Erling Haaland or Kylian Mbappe, it could open up the door for Liverpool to bring Camavinga to Anfield.

With Georginio Wijnaldum set to depart Liverpool for nothing as well as the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita being struck down by injuries on the regular, Liverpool appear in need of a new midfielder to freshen up their squad.

Camavinga has youth, ability and, surprisingly for a player of his age, experience on his side. He could well be Liverpool’s to lose.
