Liverpool’s Premier League title pursuit was dealt a blow on Sunday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by rivals Manchester United.

The Reds arrived at Old Trafford knowing that victory would take them above Arsenal and back into top spot, and things started well when Luis Diaz put the visitors in front.

Despite dominating the first half, Liverpool then found themselves behind midway through the second period, courtesy of goals from Bruno Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo.

The Red Devils looked set for victory until a late Mohamed Salah penalty drew Liverpool level, earning them a point and taking them level with league leaders Arsenal.

With Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp set to leave the club this summer, those in charge of the Reds are working hard to find the German’s successor, and they are now ready to make a move for one of their top targets.

Amorim is regarded as one of the most promising young managers in Europe

As reported by Football Insider, the Merseyside club are ready to offer Sporting CP boss Ruben Amorim a ‘huge’ deal to take charge at Anfield.

The Portuguese took charge of Sporting in 2020 after impressing during a 13-match stint as Braga manager, and he has since enjoyed success with his current side.

Amorim, 39, guided Sporting to a league and cup double in his first season in charge, before winning the cup again the following year.

This season, his side sit top of the table, four points clear of Lisbon rivals Benfica.

His impressive record hasn’t gone unnoticed, though, and the report claims that Liverpool have identified the young manager as the perfect replacement for Klopp.

At present, the former Portugal international is believed to earn around £50,000-per-week but the Reds are said to be willing to more than double that figure in order to lure him to Merseyside.
