Liverpool to wrap up second defensive signing with 6ft 4in centre-half

Liverpool have reportedly agreed a deal in principle to sign Cameroon international defender Joel Matip, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Premier League side, who drew 2-2 with League Two Exeter City in the FA Cup last Friday, have been linked with a January move for the Schalke centre-half in recent weeks.

The 24-year-old, who has 27 international caps for his country, has scored three goals in 22 appearances in all competitions for the Bundesliga outfit this season.

The 6ft 4in defender, who is out of contract at the end of the 2015-16 campaign, is set to quit the German club imminently and join fellow new signing Steven Caulker (QPR) at Anfield this term.
