England will likely have to improve significantly if they are to progress past Switzerland and into the semi-finals of Euro 2024.

Gareth Southgate’s side have been extremely underwhelming in Germany so far and were just seconds away from being knocked out at the last 16 stage by Slovakia, before Jude Bellingham’s dramatic late equaliser sent the tie to extra-time.

The Three Lions have scored just four goals at the tournament so far and won only one of their three group games, while Switzerland have been far more impressive and knocked holders Italy out in the last 16.

Southgate has been under significant pressure to make changes to his side for the game against Switzerland, with supporters calling for the likes of Anthony Gordon and Cole Palmer to be more heavily involved.

Now, it appears that the former remains at the centre of one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.

As per Football Insider, Newcastle United are demanding a package totalling £100 million for winger Gordon.

Gordon has played a bit-part role for England at the Euros so far

The report claims that Liverpool hold significant interest in the Englishman and have held talks with their Premier League counterparts over a potential deal.

Initially, the Magpies had requested that Reds defender Jarrell Quansah was included as part of a player-plus-cash deal, but the Merseyside outfit rejected the proposal.

Gordon, 23, joined the Magpies from boyhood club Everton for £45 million in January last year and has since played 64 times for the club across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and registering 11 assists.

It is claimed that Newcastle would demand an initial fee of between £75-80 million for the Englishman, with performance related add-ons that would take the deal to around the £100 million mark.

Gordon’s current contract is set to expire in the summer of 2026.
