Liverpool missed out on the chance to return to the top of the Premier League after a 0-0 draw against Manchester United on Sunday.

The Reds had topped the standings before Arsenal leapfrogged them by beating Brighton and Hove Albion 2-0 at The Emirates.

A win over the Red Devils would have moved Jurgen Klopp’s side back to the summit, but they were left frustrated after failing to find a breakthrough at Anfield.

Klopp will likely be keen to bolster his squad when the transfer window reopens next month, but it appears that Liverpool won’t be moving for one particular Premier League midfielder.

As per Football Insider, the Merseyside outfit are unlikely to move for Fulham star Joao Palhinha next month.

The 28-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s best central midfielders since joining Fulham from Sporting CP last year.

Palhinha has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs

He has made 56 appearances for the Cottagers across all competitions and came close to departing Craven Cottage during the recent summer transfer window.

The player flew to Germany in an attempt to finalise a proposed move to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, but the move collapsed late on.

Liverpool underwent a significant midfield overhaul over the summer, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Wataru Endo all arriving at Anfield.

Their heavy recruitment has prompted Liverpool to put a potential move for Palhinha on hold for now, and German side Bayern are also said to be prioritising a move for a central defender, although they do retain an interest in the Portuguese midfielder.

Fellow Premier League title chasers Liverpool are also believed to be interested in the former Sporting man, who has scored twice in 14 Premier League games so far this season.
