Liverpool have reportedly made Poland international striker Robert Lewandowski their top transfer target this summer, according to the Daily Star (via HITC Sport).

The Premier League side, who currently sit eighth in the English top-flight standings after defeating AFC Bournemouth 2-1 at the weekend, are interested in making the FC Bayern Munich superstar their marquee signing once the 2015-16 campaign has concluded.

The 27-year-old, who has 75 international caps for his country, has scored a remarkable 38 goals in 44 appearances in all competitions for the defending Bundesliga champions so far this season.

Lewandowski, who is also attracting summer interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid, is being pursued by Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, who used to manage the Polish star at Borussia Dortmund during his time in Germany.

However the reports suggest that Liverpool will need upwards of £50m to have any chance of prizing the in-form forward from the Allianz Arena later this year, where current boss Pep Guardiola will also be departing for Manchester City to replace Citizens manager Manuel Pellegrini come the end of the June.
