England get underway in the World Cup on Wednesday night when they face Croatia in Dallas, Texas.

Thomas Tuchel’s side have been drawn in Group I alongside Croatia, Ghana and Panama, and the Three Lions will be firm favourites to progress into the last 32.

England have had two pre-tournament games in preparation for the tournament, beating New Zealand and Costa Rica 1-0 and 3-0 respectively.

One player that was particularly impressive against the Kiwis was Liverpool youngster Rio Ngumoha, and the winger has since been linked with a move away from Anfield.

Now, it appears that the Reds are working hard to ensure the teenager stays put on Merseyside.

According to Football Insider, Liverpool are trying to reach an agreement on a new deal for Ngumoha as soon as he turns 18, amid interest from German champions Bayern Munich.

The report claims that the Bundesliga giants have shown interest in the teenage winger, who became the youngest scorer in Liverpool history when he netted against Newcastle United last August, just four days before his 17th birthday.

The Englishman signed his first professional contract with the Reds shortly after, and has now played 30 times for the club across all competitions at senior level, scoring twice.

Ngumoha’s current contract is set to run until the end of the 2027/28 campaign, but the report claims that the club will offer the winger an improved deal as soon as he turns 18 in an effort to fend off interest from elsewhere.

The former Chelsea academy prospect could also benefit from the departure of Mohamed Salah this summer, with the Egyptian’s absence possibly allowing him more game time.

While Ngumoha had been touted as a candidate to step in if England were to suffer any injuries before the start of the World Cup, the teenager wasn’t included in Tuchel’s initial 55-man squad list submitted to FIFA and therefore wouldn’t have been eligible.
