It’s been quite an impressive start to life in England for Joel Matip.

A few eyebrows were raised when he made the move to Anfield from Schalke in the summer, but he’s proven to be a dependable centre-back in the Premier League.

He scored his first goal for the club in the 4-2 win at Crystal Palace, and has shown excellent composure and leadership qualities in his first few months at Anfield.

Although the Reds still have issues when defending set pieces, Matip’s growing influence on the back four is going to help solidify the Liverpool backline.
