England international striker Daniel Sturridge could be offered an escape route to Italy during the January transfer window, according to Calciomercato.

The Liverpool striker, 28, has been linked with a move away from Anfield in the New Year in a bid to make the Three Lions’ squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup finals in Russia next summer.

Sturridge, who has 26 international caps for his country, has scored three goals and provided two assists in 12 appearances in all competitions for the Premier League side so far this season.

The report suggests a number of Italian clubs are interested in the forward’s services, in particularly Serie A giants AC Milan, who have been linked with a move for the Englishman in the past.

Sturridge arrived at Anfield back in January 2013 following his reported £12m transfer from Premier League rivals Chelsea, and has scored 64 times in 131 games overall for the Merseyside outfit.

The striker, who has started just four league games this term under manager Jurgen Klopp, is valued at £18m by transfermarkt.
