Manchester City have ground to make up if they are to retain the Premier League title this season.

The reigning champions currently sit third in the table, two points behind leaders Tottenham Hotspur, after suffering consecutive league defeats for the first time since 2018.

Having won the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup last term, manager Pep Guardiola will be keen to ensure his side improve when domestic football returns next week.

In the meantime, it has emerged that City may miss out on one of their transfer targets due to a Premier League rival.

According to Football Insider, the Citizens could miss out on RB Leipzig star Dani Olmo.

The report claims that the German side are reluctant to sell Olmo having already allowed Dominik Szoboszlai to join Liverpool over the summer.

Olmo has attracted interest from Manchester City

As well as Szoboszlai, Leipzig have also allowed forward Christopher Nkunku and defender Josko Gvardiol to depart in recent months, to Chelsea and Manchester City respectively.

City boss Guardiola is said to be a huge admirer of Olmo, 25, and the club are believed to have shown interest in the Spaniard over the summer.

Olmo joined Leipzig from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb back in 2020 and has since made 127 appearances for his current club across all competitions, scoring 26 goals and providing 30 assists.

So far this season the Spain international has scored five goals and provided an assist, including a hat-trick during Leipzig’s German Super Cup win over Bayern Munich in August.

In June, the forward signed a contract extension with Leipzig that is set to run until 2027.

The report claims that City are interested in signing Olmo, however Leipzig are very unlikely to allow him to leave during the upcoming January transfer window.
