Manchester City have agreed personal terms with Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Braut Haaland, and are now expected to make the Norwegian the Premier League’s highest paid player.

According to The Mail, City have offered the 21-year-old a contract worth £500,000-per-week, a figure which would put him ahead of the likes of David De Gea, Kevin De Bruyne and Cristiano Ronaldo as the league’s highest earner.

City are now expected to meet the player’s £62 million release clause when it becomes active, and a deal could even be announced in the next week, the report says.

Pep Guardiola’s side were heavily linked with a move for Tottenham striker Harry Kane last summer, but the England captain stayed put in North London.

City therefore started this season with only Gabriel Jesus as a recognised striker, and it appears that they have moved quickly to rectify that by securing the signing of Haaland.

Haaland looks set to be starring in the Premier League next season

The Dortmund forward has been one of Europe’s most prolific goal scorers over the last two seasons, scoring 82 goals in 85 games for the German side.

The Norway international has also provided 23 assists in that time, and boasts an impressive record at international level too, scoring 15 times in 17 caps so far.

He also has 33 goals in 31 games for club and country o far this term, despite missing more than 15 games through injury.

As recently as last week, officials at Dortmund insisted that no deal had been agreed, and they were even hopeful that he would agree to a 12 month extension to his current deal.

He now looks set to follow in the footsteps of his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, who played for City between 2000-2003 and is believed to have been heavily involved in negotiations.
