Manchester City face a potentially tricky test on Wednesday when they travel to face Aston Villa at Villa Park.

The reigning Premier League champions have drawn their past three games on the bounce, allowing Liverpool and Arsenal to move ahead of them in the top flight standings.

The Villans also boast an impeccable record at home so far this season, winning all six of their Premier League games.

Despite their dominance of English football in recent seasons, it appears that those in charge of Manchester City are planning ahead for next summer’s transfer window.

As per 90min, both City and Liverpool are interested in signing Bayer Leverkusen forward Florian Wirtz.

Wirtz has attracted interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs

The 20-year-old has established himself as a key player for the German side over the past three seasons, and has now made a total of 122 appearances for the club across all competitions, scoring 29 goals and providing 40 assists.

Wirtz – an attacking midfielder who is also capable of operating on the flanks – has been particularly impressive so far this season.

He has scored six goals and provided ten assists across all competitions, and has helped Xabi Alonso’s side to sit top of the Bunedsliga table after 13 matches.

Despite their interest in the player, both the Citizens and the Reds will face competition from German giants Bayern Munich for the youngster.

Leverkusen are said to have ruled out the possibility of selling Wirtz during the upcoming January transfer window, and his father and agent has recently stated that he is likely to remain with his current employers until the start of the 2024/25 season at least.

Premier League clubs Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United – as well as Spanish giants Barcelona – are all said to have previously shown an interest in the player.
