Manchester City started their Premier League title defence with a 2-0 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Erling Haaland opened the scoring early on in his 100th appearance for the club, before former Blues midfielder doubled the Citizens’ lead in the closing stages.

Next up for City is a visit from newly-promoted Ipswich Town, while Chelsea face Servette in the play-offs for the Europa Conference League, before travelling to play Wolves next weekend.

Despite the win, City were dealt a blow when debutant Savinho was forced off injured at half-time at Stamford Bridge, just days after Oscar Bobb suffered a leg fracture in training.

With that in mind, it appears that the Premier League champions are now targeting one of Europe’s most talented players.

As per Football Insider, City are considering a move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo in the wake of their double injury blow.

Rodrygo has been linked with a shock move to Manchester City before the end of the transfer window

It is claimed that the Brazilian is ‘on City’s radar’ in the closing stages of the summer transfer window, with the Manchester club weighing up whether or not to make a new signing following the injuries to Bobb and Savinho.

Rodrygo, 23, joined Real Madrid from Brazilian side Santos five years ago and has since enjoyed tremendous success in the Spanish capital.

The winger scored his 55th goal for the club during a 1-1 draw against Mallorca on Sunday, and he has also provided 41 assists in 218 games for the club across all competitions.

The report claims that a move for the Brazil international would likely cost between £70-80 million, a fee that City may not be prepared to agree to in the final days of the window.

City have already lost Julian Alvarez to Atletico Madrid so far this summer, leaving Guardiola’s attacking options a little depleted compared to last season.
