Manchester City’s defence of their Premier League title suffered a blow as they were beaten 2-1 by Bournemouth on Saturday.

The Cherries took a shock 2-0 lead courtesy of goals from Antoine Semenyo and Evanilson, and although Josko Gvardiol pulled out back, Pep Guardiola’s side were unable to find an equaliser.

That result leaves the Citizens two points behind leaders Liverpool, who came from behind to defeat Brighton and Hove Albion.

Guardiola will be without key midfielder Rodri for the remainder of the season, and City could therefore delve into the transfer market in January for a midfield replacement.

Now, though, it appears that City are chasing two of the Bundesliga’s biggest attacking stars.

According to Football Insider, the Manchester outfit are interested in both Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz and Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala.

The report claims that City are planning ahead for life without key midfielder Kevin De Bruyne, who is in the final year of his current contract.

Musiala and Wirtz are both said to be targets for Manchester City

Wirtz and Musiala have therefore been identified as potential targets for City, who are said to be plotting moves to sign the duo.

21-year-old Wirtz played an instrumental role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga triumph last season, and is now also a regular for the German national team.

The attacking midfielder has now scored 48 goals and registered 51 assists in 167 games for Leverkusen across all competitions.

Musiala, meanwhile, left Chelsea’s academy to join Bayern as a teenager and has now made 175 appearances for the Bavarian outfit.

He has scored 50 goals and provided 35 assists in that time, and his impressive displays have attracted interest from the Premier League champions.

City are likely to face competition from Spanish giants Real Madrid in the race to sign the duo, the report claims, but the Premier League side are ready to attempt to lure them to England.
