Manchester City are on the verge of signing Anderlecht full-back Sergio Gomez as a replacement for Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to reports.

The Ukrainian departed The Etihad for Arsenal last month, and City initially looked at former Brighton defender Marc Cucurella as a replacement.

The Premier League champions couldn’t agree a fee with the Seagulls though, and the Spaniard eventually joined Chelsea.

Guardiola is eyeing a move for Gomez

That has forced City to turn their attention to Gomez, and talks between City and the player are said to be at an advanced stage, according to Sky Sports.

Despite claiming that the move is close, the report does also state that City are yet to put their official offer to the Belgian side.

The 21-year-old is regarded by City as a future prospect, although it is possible that he will be included in Pep Guardiola’s squad for this season if he is signed.

With Zinchenko having departed, Guardiola has been left with just Joao Cancelo as his only option at left-back, although the Portuguese is naturally a right-back.
