England became the first team in history to lose consecutive European Championship finals after defeat against Spain in Berlin on Sunday.

The Three Lions had underwhelmed throughout the tournament but reached the final and went into half-time level with their opponents.

Luis de la Fuente’s side took the lead just after the brreak through Nico Williams, before substitute Cole Palmer drew Gareth Southgate’s team level.

The match looked to be heading for extra-time until Mikel Oyarzabal latched onto Marc Cucurella’s pass and prodded the ball past Jordan Pickford.

Southgate’s future as the national team manager remains uncertain, but in the meantime it appears that one member of the Spain squad could soon be on his way to the Premier League.

As per Football Insider, Manchester City are closing in on a deal to sign Spaniard Dani Olmo.

Olmo impressed for Spain at the Euros

The 26-year-old played a starring role for de la Fuente’s side throughout the Euros, scoring three goals and registering two assists despite not being a starter at the beginning of the tournament.

It is claimed that the midfielder’s contract with current club RB Leipzig includes a release clause that expires on Monday, but City are in advanced discussions about activating the clause.

Olmo joined Leipzig from Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb back in 2020 and has since made 148 appearances for his current club across all competitions, scoring 29 goals and providing 34 assists.

The player’s release clause is set at £60 million, and the report suggests that a deal is likely to be completed if the two clubs can agree on the terms of the payment.

It is also claimed that Olmo has informed his representatives that he wishes to join the Premier League champions this summer.
