Manchester City have completed the signing of goalkeeper Marcus Bettinelli from rivals Chelsea.

The Citizens announced on Tuesday that the Englishman has joined Pep Guardiola’s squad on a one-year-deal.

The 33-year-old joined City following Scott Carson’s departure from The Etihad, and will replace his fellow countryman as City’s third-choice ‘keeper behind Ederson and Stefan Ortega.

Bettinelli joined Chelsea back in 2021 after departing West London rivals Fulham, for whom he had played 120 times across all competitions.

The Englishman played just once for the Blues during his time at Stamford Bridge, though, making his debut during a 5-1 win over Chesterfield in the FA Cup in 2022.

Since then Bettinelli has primarily acted as emergency back-up for Chelsea, behind the likes of Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga and, more recently, Robert Sanchez and Filip Jorgensen.

Bettinelli becomes City’s second signing of the summer after the arrival of Rayan Ait-Nouri.
