Reigning champions Manchester City welcome Tottenham Hotspur to The Etihad when the Premier League returns next weekend.

Pep Guardiola’s side find themselves five points behind leaders Liverpool after just 11 matches of the season, having lost their last two games in the competition.

City will go into the game against Spurs as favourites, but the North London side will undoubtedly provide a stern test for Guardiola’s side.

Now, it appears that City could be considering a move to sing one of their former players.

As per Football Insider, Man City are keeping tabs on Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremy Frimpong.

The 23-year-old has been outstanding since joining Leverkusen from Scottish side Celtic in 2021, having departed the Citizens two years earlier.

Frimpong há been linked with a shock return to Manchester City

In total he has played more than 150 times for Leverkusen, and he played an integral role for Xabi Alonso’s side as they won the Bundesliga title last term.

He has scored 26 times during that time, as well as providing 38 assists, making him one of the most effective full-backs in Europe in terms of attacking output.

Frimpong has played in all ten of Leverkusen’s Bundesliga matches so far this term, and also features regularly in the Champions League.

City are claimed to be on the hunt for a new right-back as they plan aheads for the eventual departure of veteran defender Kyle Walker.

The England international will soon enter into the final 18 months of his current contract with the club.

Frimpong has therefore emerged as one of their top targets, but he is contracted to the German side until the summer of 2028.

During his time with City, Frimpong played regularly for the club’s Under-23 and Under-18 sides but failed to ever make a senior appearance.
