Manchester City will enjoy time off this weekend as the second half of the Premier League’s winter break takes place.

The Citizens came from behind to beat Newcastle United 3-2 last time out, and now don’t play again until an FA Cup tie against Tottenham Hotspur on January 26.

Over this two-week period, all 20 top flight sides get a period of at least ten days without a league game, however the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal will have the chance to take advantage in City’s absence.

The Reds currently sit top of the table, two points clear of the Citizens, while Arsenal are three points behind the reigning champions but could move level with victory.

In the meantime, it appears that City are considering spending a staggering amount of money to re-sign two of their former players.

According to Football Insider, the reigning Premier League champions could spend as much as £200 million to re-sign former players Pedro Porro and Douglas Luiz.

Porro has impressed for Spurs this season

Right-back Porro spent three years at The Etihad but left in 2022 to join Sporting CP having failed to make a single senior appearance for City.

He then moved to Tottenham on loan in January last year, before making his move permanent last summer.

In total the full-back has made 38 appearances for Spurs across all competitions, but the report claims that City have a strong interest in signing the Spaniard.

Luiz, meanwhile, departed Manchester to join Aston Villa in 2019 and has since played more than 180 times for the Villans.

The Brazilian has established himself as a key player for Unai Emery’s side, and Villa are expected to demand around £100 million if they are to sell the 25-year-old this summer.

It is also claimed that Spurs value Porro at around £100 million, which means that City could have to spend in excess of £200 million to sign their two former players.
