Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola will be desperate to see his side win a record fifth Premier League title next season.

The Citizens followed up their treble-winning 2022/23 campaign by defending their Premier League title, and in doing so became the first team in history to win four consecutive English top flight titles.

Guardiola will be desperate to add a seventh Premier League medal to his own personal trophy cabinet, but it remains to be seen whether or not the Spaniard will delve into the transfer market to bolster his squad this summer.

In the meantime, though, one of his current players appears to be edging closer to a move away from The Etihad.

As per Fabrizio Romano, full-back Sergio Gomez is edging closer to a move to La Liga side Real Sociedad.

Gomez looks increasingly likely to leave Manchester City this summer

The Italian journalist suggests that the La Liga side are in pole position to land left-back Gomez, despite interest from at least four other clubs.

The player – who joined City from Belgian side Anderlecht in the summer of 2022 – is said to have always preferred the idea of a move to Sociedad.

Gomez, 23, has failed to ever establish himself as a regular in Guardiola’s side and has played just 38 times for the club across all competitions.

Other interested clubs are said to have made loan offers for the Spaniard, but City preferred Sociedad’s offer of around £7.3 million as it also includes both sell-on and buy-back clauses.

Gomez is currently contracted to the Citizens until the end of the 2025/26 campaign, but it appears increasingly likely that he will depart The Etihad prior to that date.
