When your squad is pumped full of some of the continent’s best talent, the biggest challenge is keeping everybody happy.

Rotation and rest has been one of Pep Guardiola’s best assets during his time at Manchester City.

Not only does it ensure players are fresh and injury free for most of the season, it also keeps players in form and confident whenever they are called upon.

It is easier said than done, especially when the vast majority of your squad want to play 90 minutes every single match.

There will always be players who miss out and will subsequently look to their agents to find them the regular football they crave.

And according to 90min.com, City central defender Aymeric Laporte is allegedly looking to engineer and Etihad exit and return to Spain.

Laporte only made Premier League 16 appearances for City last season

The 27-year-old defender enjoyed an impressive Euro 2020, after switching international allegiances from France to Spain, after being jettisoned by Les Bleus manager Didier Deschamps.

Now it appears central defender sees Spain as home, and is now very keen on returning to La Liga where he spent seven years growing and developing as a player.

Real Madrid and Barcelona could be waiting in the wings should the former Athletic Bilbao defender get his wish.

It was only a season ago when many believed City’s failure to win the Premier League in the 2019-20 season was primarily down to Aymeric Laporte’s injury.

However, the £65 million arrival of Ruben Dias from Benfica, combined with the extraordinary form of John Stones, consigned Laporte to the unfamiliar position of bench warmer.
