Premier League champions Manchester City are back in action on Saturday when they host West Ham United.

The Citizens have endured a torrid season so far, winning just nine of their 19 league games so far and sitting sixth in the table.

A run of just two wins in ten games has seen City fall 14 points behind leaders Liverpool, who also have a game-in-hand over their stuttering title rivals.

While City could use the January transfer window to bolster Guardiola’s squad, it appears that they may have been handed a boost as they plot a summer pursuit of one of the Bundesliga’s biggest stars.

According to Football Insider, talks between City target Jamal Musiala and his current club Bayern Munich over a new contract have stalled, which could improve City’s chances of signing the player this summer.

The report claims that City are unlikely to lure the Germany international away from Bavaria this month, but are set to make a move for the attacking midfielder during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Musiala, 21, departed Chelsea’s youth academy to join Bayern in 2019 and has since established himself not only as one of the best players at the club, but also as one of the most talented attacking players in the German top flight.

Musiala has attracted interest from Manchester City

In total he has played 185 times for the club across all competitions, scoring 57 goals and registering 37 assists as well as lifting four Bundesliga titles.

This season he has registered a combined 20 goals and assists in 22 matches.

The German’s contract with Bayern is set to expire in the summer of 2026, which means he could sign a pre-contact agreement with any club outside of Germany from January 2026 onwards.

Musiala’s former club Chelsea are also said to be monitoring the midfielder, while fellow Premier League clubs Liverpool and Manchester City – as well as Spanish giants Real Madrid – are also credited with an interest.
