Manchester City host neighbours Manchester United on Sunday, with both sides in desperate need of a victory.

City boss Pep Guardiola is currently in the midst of his worst ever run as a manager, with his side having won just one of their last ten matches across all competitions.

United, meanwhile, went unbeaten during new head coach Ruben Amorim’s first three matches in charge, before suffering defeats against both Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.

The Red Devils returned to winning ways against Czech side Viktoria Plzen in the Europa League on Thursday, and Amorim will be hoping to see his side get the better of an out-of-form City side on Sunday.

Now, it appears that City are eyeing a move for one of their former players.

According to Football Insider, the reigning Premier League champions are considering a move for Bayer Leverkusen right-back Jeremie Frimpong.

Frimpong has impressed for Leverkusen over the past couple of seasons

It is claimed that City are on the hunt for a new right-back to replace veteran defender Kyle Walker, and 24-year-old Frimpong has emerged as a surprise target.

Frimpong departed City’s academy to join Scottish side Celtic in 2019, and moved on to Leverkusen two years later.

In total he has played 165 times for the German side across all competitions, scoring 27 times and providing 40 assists.

The Netherlands international played a key role for Xabi Alonso’s side as they won the Bundesliga title last year, for the first time in the club’s history.

He is contracted to Leverkusen until 2028, though, which could make it tricky for City to lure him back to Manchester.

Veteran City full-back Walker has been a mainstay in Guardiola’s backline for several years now, but his performances during the Citizens’ dismal run of form have prompted criticism and the report suggests that those in charge of the club are now on the hunt for a replacement.
