Manchester City moved to the top of the Premier League table with a 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

City had lost their two previous games in the competition but raced into an early 2-0 lead at The Etihad, courtesy of goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland.

The Seagulls prevented Pep Guardiola’s side from finding a third goal, and Ansu Fati’s second half strike set up a nervy ending for the hosts.

Brighton were ultimately unable to find an equaliser, though, meaning City leapfrogged both Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur and now sit top of the table.

Despite the reigning champions occupying top spot, it appears that those in charge of the club are still assessing potential transfer targets.

According to Football Insider, City are weighing up a move for 20-year-old Bayern Munich star Jamal Musiala.

Musiala is a target for both Manchester City and Liverpool

The attacking midfielder left Chelsea’s academy to join the Bundesliga giants back in 2019 and he has now made 134 appearances for Bayern across all competitions.

In that time, the former England youth international has scored 32 goals and provided 26 assists, including one against Mainz on Saturday.

Despite being widely regarded as one of the best young players in world football, Musiala has struggled to maintain a regular starting spot under Thomas Tuchel so far this season.

The Germany international has only started three Bundesliga games so far, and both City and Premier League rivals Liverpool are said to be monitoring his situation.

Musiala’s current contract is said to earn him around £83,000-per-week, and is set to run until 2026.

The player is said to be frustrated at his lack of game time so far this season, something which could potentially stall ongoing negotiations over a contract extension.
