Manchester City kept the pressure on Premier League leaders Arsenal with a 4-1 victory over Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

The Gunners maintained their advantage at the top of the table with a 1-0 win over Leicester City earlier on in the day, before the reigning champions cruised to victory on the south coast.

Next up for Pep Guardiola’s side is a trip to Championship outfit Bristol City in the FA Cup fifth round, before they host high-flying Newcastle United at The Etihad next weekend.

In the meantime, it has emerged that City are interested in signing a Premier League midfielder.

According to The Daily Star, the Premier League champions are keen on signing Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The Argentina international played a crucial role as his side triumphed in the World Cup in Qatar, and his performances at the tournament have attracted interest from several clubs.

It is claimed that Guardiola believes the 24-year-old would be the perfect addition to his squad, although they are likely to face competition from several other clubs for the player’s signature.

Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are all said to be interested in the Argentinian, who featured in six of his country’s seven games at the World Cup, providing a crucial assist in the final.

Mac Allister is set to be the subject of significant interest when the transfer window opens this summer

The Seagulls are said to value Mac Allister at around £70 million, although the volume of interest in him could see that valuation smashed if a bidding war is started.

City are set to be in the market for at least one central midfielder this summer, with the future of some of their current crop currently uncertain.

Ilkay Gundogan is set to be out of contract at the end of the current campaign and is attracting interest from clubs in Spain and Germany, while Bernardo Silva has 18 months remaining on his current deal but has requested to leave the club twice in the past two years and could do so once again.

Mac Allister joined Brighton from Argentinos Juniors back in 2019 and was initially sent back on loan to the club, before joining Boca Juniors for a brief loan spell.

He returned to England in he summer of 2020, and has since established himself as a regular at The Amex.

In total, the midfielder has made 93 appearances for the south coast side, scoring 15 goals and providing six assists.

He has been particularly impressive this term, scoring seven goals in 21 matches across all competitions.
