Pep Guardiola may have become one of the greatest Premier League managers of all time, but he is still yet to achieve the crown jewel Man City most desperately crave.

The wounds from City’s 1-0 defeat to Chelsea in last season’s Champions League final are still wide open, with many feeling it was an opportunity lost.

Many even blamed Guardiola, accusing him of over-thinking the final having played Ilkay Gundogan at defensive midfield, instead of Fernandinho or Rodri.

Even Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel said himself he was stunned neither of them started the match as the classy Jorginho and the immense N’Golo Kante dominated the midfield against the Citizens.

City are planning an onslaught on the Champions League again this season and are looking to refresh their squad with some more new faces.

According to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, City are interested in signing exciting full-back Nuno Mendes from Sporting Lisbon.

Mendes’ excellent form earned him a place in Portugal’s squad for Euro 2020.

The 19-year-old left-back made 29 appearances for Lisbon as they went on to win the Portuguese Primeira Liga for the first time since 2002.

He is considered one of the most exciting defenders in world football with his surging runs from full back, as well as his mature defending at the decisive end.

Guardiola loves a full back purchase, having shelled out on Kyle Walker, Joao Cancelo, Danilo, and Benjamin Mendy in the past.

However, it is believed the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich head coach does not fully trust Mendy, having deployed Oleksandr Zinchenko and Cancelo ahead of the Frenchman.

Unfortunately for City fans, it is believed Lisbon’s hefty valuation of around £43 million for Mendes could be a huge stumbling block with City allegedly only willing to pay £30 million.
