Manchester City will come up against soon-to-be Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim when they face Sporting CP in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

Amorim, 39, has agreed to take charge of the Red Devils after the upcoming international break, with Ruud van Nistelrooy in interim charge until then.

City boss Pep Guardiola will be hopeful of seeing his side get the better of their Portuguese opponents, which would take them to 10 points from their first four games of the group phase and therefore put them in a strong position as they look to qualify for the knockout stages of the competition.

Off the pitch, though, it appears that one of City’s players is keen on the idea of a move to Germany.

According to Football Insider, goalkeeper Stefan Ortega is seeking a move to Bundesliga champions Bayer Leverkusen.

The report suggests that Ortega, 31, is keen on the idea of joining Xabi Alonso’s side, who are said to be in the hunt for a new ‘keeper.

Ortega joined City from German side Arminia Bielefeld in the summer of 2022, and he has since acted as back-up to first choice goalkeeper Ederson.

Ortega is reportedly on the hunt for more regular first team football

The former Germany youth international has played 38 times for City across all competitions, keeping 19 clean sheets.

Citing German outlet BILD, the report suggests that Leverkusen’s hunt for a new goalkeeper has lead to them identifying Ortega and Cologne’s Jonas Urbig as potential replacements for current number one Lucas Hradecky.

Ortega will soon enter the final 18 months of his current contract with the Citizens, and the report claims that the player is ‘very tempted’ by the prospect of a move to Leverkusen.

City’s current first choice ‘keeper, Ederson, has also been linked with a move away from The Etihad in recent months, with a move to Saudi Arabia rumoured to be a possibility.
